Hello friends! Hope y’all are doing well! Today the youngest and of course best Kapoor has a recipe for y’all and it is one of our FAVORITE dips ever, 7 LAYER DIP! This recipe is very versatile and swap friendly. Feel free to add or subtract a layer! This dip is best enjoyed with some tortilla, potato, or pita chips (but we don’t judge eating it by the spoonful!). Hope y’all enjoy this delicious dip as much as our family does!
Ingredients:
- Layer 1 (BEANS):
- 1 16 oz can refried beans (pinto or black beans both work really well!)
- 1 tspn taco seasoning
- 1/4 tspn onion powder
- 1/4 tspn garlic powder
- 1/2 tspn salt (or to taste)
- Layer 2 (Guacamole) *this is our FAVE guac recipe*:
- 3 avocados
- 1 tspn salt (or to taste)
- 1/3 cup chopped red onion (we LOVE onions however, feel free to tweak this to your tastebuds)
- 2 tbsp finely chopped cilantro
- Layer 3 (CREMA):
- 2/3 cup sour cream OR cream cheese
- Layer 4 (SALSA):
- 2/3 cup salsa (we use very hot picante!)
- Layer 5 (CHEESE):
- 2/3 cup shredded cheese (we use a Mexican blend)
- Layers 6-7 (Your choice!):
- 1/3 cup of 2 of the below toppings or feel free to choose your own:
- jalapenos
- red/white onion
- scallions
- olives
- tomatoes
- bell peppers
- celery
- cilantro (*should be 2 tablespoons not 1/3 of a cup)
- 1/3 cup of 2 of the below toppings or feel free to choose your own:
Directions:
- For your first layer (refried beans) mix together the beans, taco seasoning, onion powder, garlic powder and salt in a medium sized bowl.
- Spoon the beans into a pan of your choosing for the first layer of your dip (tip: glass ones are nice to see the layers).
- For your second layer (guacamole), mash together the avocados, salt, and lime juice in a separate bowl.
- Add the red onion and cilantro to the guacamole layer.
- Spread the second guacamole layer on top of the refried beans. Pro tip: if you dollop the guacamole on top of the bean layer and then spread you are less likely to mix layers.
- For the third layer (sour cream), whip the sour cream/cream cheese in a bowl and dollop on top of the guacamole layer. Spread the mixture evenly.
- For the fourth layer, spread the salsa evenly on top of the sour cream layer. To ensure that the sour cream doesn’t mix with the salsa dollop the mixture on first. We used HOT picante salsa but feel free to use your favorite jarred salsa.
- For the fifth layer (cheese), sprinkle shredded cheese onto the salsa layer.
- For the 6th and 7th layer this recipe is very versatile. We ended up using cilantro and jalapeño peppers as our topping however, feel free to adjust this to your liking. Some tasty swaps are listed above! The possibilities are endless.
